Capital Pursuit is the Capital Strider’s premier road race that takes participants through the vibrant streets of downtown Des Moines and will finish at the amazing Western Gateway Park downtown. In its 40th year, make sure not to miss one of Des Moines' longest-running traditions.
The Capital Striders are a member of the Road Runners Club of America, which promotes the development of community-based running clubs and events in the pursuit of health and competition for all ages. RRCA provides support and race insurance for many of its 2,500 member organizations.

COURSE HYDRATION - There are 3 water stations on the 10-mile course and 1 water station on the 5K course. Gatorade will be available on the 10-mile course at two water stations, near the 5- and 8-mile points.
CALLING ALL ELITES: The Capital Pursuit road race is again offering free entry to elite runners who meet time qualifications for the 10-mile race. The standards for the featured race are 55 minutes for the men, 1:00 for the women, or equivalent times for shorter or longer races run within the past 15 months. PACKET PICKUP
Saturday, September 23, 2023 (1:00 - 5:00pm)
Location: Fitness Sports, 8810 Swanson Blvd in the Swanson Depot
Race Morning Packet Pickup will be available near the start line at 15th & Grand Avenue from 7:30 - 8:15 a.m.
AWARDS
The overall top 3 males and females in the 10 mile and 5K races will receive cash prizes.
Age group awards will be given in the 10 Mile race only. Awards will be for the top 3 males and top 3 females in 6 age groups. The age categories are: 19 and under; 20–29; 30–39; 40–49; 50–59; 60 and over.
Awards will start at approximately 11:20 AM at the post-race party.
PURSUIT JR. INFORMATION
The Pursuit Junior kids' races are free, however, registration is required.
Participants can register at the Pursuit Jr. Table near the finish line on race day.
Parents/guardians will need to sign a waiver prior to their child participating in the race.
Participants will receive a t-shirt and a participation ribbon or medal.
The announcer will ask the various age divisions to report to the Pursuit Jr. table at approximately 10:15 AM.
Beginning at approximately 10:30 AM, kids will run down and finish on Grand Avenue.
Participants will be broken into the following 3 age groups:
Ages 4 & under: 10:45 AM – 100 meters (approximately)
Ages 5 - 8: 10:50 AM – 250 meters (approximately)
Ages 9 - 12: 10:55 AM – 400 meters (approximately)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
SOCKS! Technical socks for all 10-mile and 5K participants.
MEDALS! All 10 Mile finishers will receive a finisher medal.
POST-RACE PARTY! Join us for the post-race party at Big Grove Brewery and Taproom. Doors will open at 11 AM with awards starting at approximately 11:20 AM.
